One thing that will come out of this terrible pandemic, is the change of usage of the words “ key workers”.

For years we have been told that the bankers , the hedge fund people, the City workers, the accountants the CEOs of large companies, they were treated like gods in the media.

Hymns to them in the stock market on every radio and TV! But now the key workers are the health workers who are keeping us alive, the cleaners who are protecting us, the shop workers, who are risking their lives to make sure we eat, the care workers without protection helping the elderly, the drivers of the food lorries who wake early to stock the supermarkets.

They are the key workers now, and we should clap them every Thursday, with much gusto! And if you want to be cheered up watch the fantastic Ratton school staff You Tube farewell to their students, so dedicated !

Margaret Thatcher famously said: “There’s no such thing as society.” I think we are proving her wrong.
