Osborne the Emu at Catsfield school fete

Bexhill Emu Osborne made a new friend when he visited the Catsfield School Fete.

Jasmine el Gamal, from Battle, is just seven years old and a keen animal lover who, despite having cystic fibrosis, enjoys helping out around her grandmother's farm.

Jasmine's Mum, Emma Salmon, feels that because her daughter is so active this really does help keep her fit.

The school fete was the Osborne the Emu's last local appearance with his companion Mallory for the time being as they have gone to Middle Farm near Lewes for the summer holidays.

When the youngsters come home they will be big enough to live on owner Gillian Stone's smallholding in Catsfield.

Gillian, of Cooden Drive said, "They were getting just a bit too big to live in the garage but not quite big enough to be fox-proof and live out! We miss them but visit them quite regularly so they don't forget us."
