Our 'Enery gets high in Hastings

HE HAS always been a giant to the nation but when Sir Henry Cooper dwarfed a plane he really looked the part.

The former British heavyweight champion, (pictured right), who knocked Muhammad Ali flat on his back in 1963, was special guest at Hastings Model Flying Club's annual Air Show at the weekend, opening the event on Saturday.

Chairman of the club, Brian Johns, said: "We don't normally have a celebrity open the event, but his son, Henry, has been a member of the club for about a year so we just asked him. As he does a lot of charity work we offered to make a donation to a charity of his choice, but he suggested we make a donation to a local children's charity. We are going to decide which children's charity at our next club meeting in August. It was a very successful day and we are very thankful to Sir Henry Cooper and the public for supporting us."

The model air show, now in its eighth year, was held at the Bulverhythe recreation ground over the weekend and the club's 150 members, young and older, were joined by a thrilled audience.

The club members displayed very impressive flying with planes ranging from gas turbine jet planes to one member's Guinness Book of Records entry, a 17 foot electric Lancaster - the biggest electric flying model in Europe.
