The cat owner, who has asked not to be named, spoke of her ‘shock’ when 10-year-old Lear came home on Saturday (December 10) covered in white paint.

The Vann Road resident said: “He is quite a timid cat so he would have had to been caught for him to be sprayed, he wouldn’t approach people.

“He came home at 5pm on Saturday evening but I hadn’t seen him since the previous evening so I’m not sure when it happened.

“He’s been quite needy ever since.”

The cat owner added: “I called the vet and the police after he came home and the vet recommended that I trim all the fur with the paint on and to keep and eye on him for poisoning.

“If he had ingested any of the fumes it could have been really dangerous.”

The Fernhurst resident said she wanted to tell people what has happened to hopefully retrieve more information and to alert people in the area.

“I was quite shocked when he came home like he did – and I am concerned for other people’s cats in the area,” she said.

“I want to warn other people and also ask if anyone saw anything to come forward.”

If you saw anything related to the incident, call police on 101.
