Pagham green team wanted

A green team is wanted in Pagham to make a difference to climate change.

The environmental champions will be sought at a public meeting to be held in March to launch the area’s Greening Campaign.

Pagham resident Joan Grant is arranging the get-together at Rose Green Junior School on a date yet to be fixed to involve individuals in helping the earth.

Their actions could be as simple as turning off the standby on all electrical equipment or walking journeys of less than a mile.

Mrs Grant said: “This campaign takes tackling climate change into the community. I want to encourage people to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions. If everyone made the effort, it can add up to a real difference.”

The campaign was launched by a Petersfield resident in Hampshire and has spread to more than 200 communities across the UK.

But the Bognor Regis area has missed out on the activities so far. Bognorian Mrs Grant, 71, wants to change that.

“I think the town of Bognor is probably too big for the campaign at the moment, but Pagham should be ideal,” she said. “There is a lot of good work going on here, such as at Barfoots, and I want to spread the message.”

Those who join will be a given a card with ten challenges to meet to cut carbon dioxide emissions.

Meeting enough of those will enable a calculation to be made to about how much of the gas has been stopped from harming the atmosphere.

Mrs Grant has become involved through the business selling central heating control systems which she runs with her husband.

They joined a small green business group in Bognor which became aware of the Greening Campaign. She attended several campaign meetings and became enthused by its ideals.

Her work has been endorsed by Pagham Parish Council. Chairman Ray Radmall said: “We will do what we can to help you and take your message on board.

“Our environmental record may not be perfect but I think our community does quite well.”
