Pedal power for Bexhill Caring Community

CYCLISTS are getting set for an exhilarating trip from Bexhill to Paris - without leaving Devonshire Square.

The virtual ride should provide plenty of May Day entertainment as essential funds are raised for Bexhill Caring Community.

The event called BexerCycle 2010 will feature teams of riders taking turns on four exercise bikes as they clock the miles on their imaginary journey.

Police, fire service and ambulance teams are joined by members of Physiques Gym who will attempt to cover the entire distance with just four riders. The muscle men could be in action for up to 12 hours.

Organisers this week appealed for more riders to sign up. They will be in the company of teams from Fox and Sons, The Property Cafe, Redwell Estates, Ark Letting, Bexhill Library, Khaleid Hairdressers, UK Hair, Buzz Hairdressers, Sainsbury's and Bexhill Leisure Centre.

Caring Community manager Margaret von Speyr would also like an army of volunteers to be marshalls, timekeepers, stallholders, etc.

Staying with the big ride theme, S and S Taxis have boosted the raffle prizes with a 100 voucher. Typically, this could cover the cost of a trip to Southampton or Heathrow or a return journey to Gatwick.

Proceeds from the May 1 event will help to fund the Caring Community's new 30,000 meeting hall.

Businesses and organisations wishing to take part can pick up sponsorship forms from the Bexhill Caring Community office or the Bexhill Observer, both in Sackville Road.
