Westgate Leisure Centre, in Via Ravenna, reopened on April 12 after more than three months of closure with safety measures in place including one-way systems, enhanced cleaning regimes and structured sessions.

Numbers through the doors show that members were keen to get active again, with an influx of new customers joining and almost 3,000 visits at the centre’s gym last week.

The swimming pool received more than 1,200 visits and had 800 swimming lessons booked during its opening week.

The centre, run by Everyone Active in partnership with Chichester District Council, continues to be used as a mass vaccination site by the NHS.

Stuart Mills, area contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “The response we’ve received from our members has been overwhelmingly positive.

“We’re so pleased to see many new and returning customers through our doors, all whilst being able to safely vaccinate the local community too.

“We are also looking forward to being able to open even more facilities, such as our group exercise classes, in the next step of the Government road map.”
