Callum Leverett, from Iden Street in Hampden Park, died on February 2. His family believe he choked during the night.

The ‘dads vs lads’ match kicked off at 5pm at Eastbourne Borough FC’s home ground in Priory Lane and finished 7-7, with the lads winning on penalties.

A minute’s silence was observed before the game and around 625 people were in attendance, raising £1,200 for the family.

Callum’s mum Marie Hollis said, “It was an amazing turnout and a fantastic event. A great time was had by all and I would like to thank everyone for coming out and showing how much Callum was loved. Callum’s dad Gareth and I are very proud of each and every person who organised, supported and played in the match.”

The GoFundMe page set up for Callum’s family has raised £12,755 so far, £2,755 over its original £10,000 target.

Callum’s aunt Claire Diamond said, “I would like to thank everybody who helped me organise things behind the scenes including Logan Diamond, Matt White, Chelsea Venner, Caroline Stevens and Arron Hayden. Most of all we would like to thank Eastbourne Borough FC for providing the pitch and facilities.”

Callum’s friends say they are hoping to make the match an annual event.
