The resumption of a normal Remembrance Sunday parade and service was extremely well supported and attended in Billingshurst at the weekend.

On Armistice Day itself on Friday (November 11) around 50 people attended the village's two minutes' silence.

Two days later there was a huge turnout for the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service organised by the Billingshurst branch of the Royal British Legion.

They were given tremendous support by the parish council, who looked after the road closures, cleaning of the War Memorial and ensuring the 'soldiers' are in place on the Green and poppies are on the lampposts.

Scouts and Guides turned out in large numbers and marched with pride with the mobile band provided by the Billingshurst Lions.

The Lions provided a poppy covered Land Rover (special thanks to Anthony Faust) with PA and speakers that everyone marched along with.

Julia Banks was the parade marshal and Paul Berry, chair of the parish council, once again took the Salute alongside Colin Banks, RBL Billingshurst branch president, as the Parade made its way up the High Street after the church service.

The Billingshurst Branch British Legion standard bearer was Andy Johnson who was chosen and attended the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.

Prayers were led by The Reverend David Beal, who is the vicar of St Mary’s and is also the RBL branch chaplin.

Billinghurst's firefighters also joined in with the parade.

The Poppy Appeal has once again been successful with counting continuing with assistance from the Cubs.

Mr Banks said he was 'extremely proud' to be president of the small but very active branch of the RBL led by a 'great team' of officers led by Robert Nicoll.
