Chichester Area Talking News (CATN) is now fully back in business, sending out regular news recordings on memory sticks to blind and visually disabled listeners across the district and Bognor Regis.

The service is also still available through its website and on the British Wireless for the Blind app on mobile phones or smart speakers.

Trustee Bob Money said: “Most of us rely on our local papers to keep in touch with what is happening in and around the area in which we live, providing information that doesn’t reach us through TV or radio.

“This is the really local news from which the visually impaired are completely cut off unless they happen to have a relative or friend who can spare the time to read to them.

“The ‘talking newspaper’ produced by CATN fills this gap, and plays an important role in helping to restore independence as well as creating the opportunity for them to continue to take an active interest in the community.”

A message from the Editor, Gary Shipton: In order for us to continue to provide high quality and trusted local news, I am asking you to please purchase a copy of our newspapers. With the coronavirus lockdown having a major impact on many of our local valued advertisers - and consequently the advertising that we receive - we are more reliant than ever on you helping us to provide you with news and information by buying a copy of our newspapers. Our journalists are highly trained and our content is independently regulated by IPSO to some of the most rigorous standards in the world. But being your eyes and ears comes at a price. So we need your support more than ever to buy our newspapers during this crisis. Stay safe, and best wishes.
