Johanna, a Major in the Royal Signals, said: “Having convinced ourselves we could do our own marathon locally, we thought it would be a great way to raise money for our children’s school, who have been amazing throughout the Covid pandemic.”

The duo trained during the lockdown before they took on the full 26.2 miles on Sunday around Fishbourne, North Mundham, Hunston, Birdham, Itchenor and back.

Maisie, who works for the Modern Calligraphy Company in Birdham, had never run this far.

The 32-year-old said: “I am super proud to help raise money for Kingsham Primary School, where my two kids go.

“We want to help contribute to say thank you!”

Johanna, 39, said she has enjoyed running over the last year.

She said: “Running has given me a focus during these strange times and I have loved running with Maisie.”

“I have three boys at Kingsham who are all very active, so the money raised will definitely go towards something they will love!”
