Emergency response near Selsey after two people cut off by tide and ‘surrounded by water’

The pair has become stuck on an island, surrounded by water, at around 7pm on Tuesday (April 14), according to a Selsey Coastguard spokesman.

“The team requested the launch of Selsey Inshore Lifeboat but unfortunately the Lifeboat was unable to get into the nature reserve where the casualties were,” the spokesman said.

“Coastguard Rescue Officers managed to get to the casualties dressed in full Water Rescue Kit, and were able to bring them back ashore using our Inflatable Water Rescue Raft.”

The two people were cold but needed no medical assistance.

The spokesman said: “Strong words of advice were given by Coastguards relating to Covid-19 rules.

“Please stay at Home, protect us, other emergency services and the NHS.”
