A firefighter who joined the service in his home town of Petworth on his 18th birthday has retired after 35 years of serving local communities.
Kieran Smith was presented with a certificate commending him for his years of service by area manager Gary Locker on his retirement on Tuesday (December 29).
The 53-year-old watch manager, who lives in Wisborough Green, has served mainly at Horsham, Horley and in training.
He initially signed up as a retained firefighter before going full time four years later.
Richard Davy, deputy district commander at West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Kieran will be missed by the station and the service as a friend and for his total professionalism at operational incidents.
“We wish him all the very best and a very long and happy retirement.”
