Haslemere Museum appoints new chairman and honorary vice presidents

Chris, who held senior positions at Barclays during his career, was a senior partner of a global consultancy specialising in leasing and asset finance before his retirement 2019.

Chris and his family have lived in Haslemere for over 30 years and he is a member of many local organisations, as well as a trustee of the Fernhurst Centre.

Chris said: “I have been overwhelmed by the commitment of trustees, volunteers and staff at the museum, who have been faced with some of the most unusual and complex situations in the last ten months. I am honoured to take on this vital role of chairman of the board.”

Chris was co-opted onto the museum’s board of trustees from January 2020, and in the following months he assisted with the many unprecedented issues faced during the coronavirus pandemic as a member of the crisis management committee.

With future planning a priority and in a bid to recognise certain individuals who have made a significant contribution to the museum, and have the capability to continue to do so, the trustees have created a new role of honorary vice president.

The prime responsibility of the role is to raise the profile of the museum and its work with any other body that may contribute financial or other support to pursue the objectives of the museum.

The new honorary vice presidents are ex-trustees Christopher Ashton-Jones and Sarah Bain, who both work tirelessly in the community in various roles, and as advocates for the museum.
