Asked how he and the family had been spending lockdown he said the estate has still kept him very busy.

"Fortunately, we have all been in good health. My children have been here and we've all got really good at cooking and ironing.

"I have been doing some cooking myself. I've become a master baker!"

Asked if Mary Berry would have approved of his catering, he joked: "She's on the phone to me all the time!

"Actually, I'm sending her Instagrams of my latest efforts and asking for her opinion and I'm getting lots of thumbs up!"

The closure of the golf course - now reopened - did give him a rare opportunity to walk round it each morning with the dogs.

"Normally I can't get on there for a walk because the golfers start so early."

And he's even found time for his love of photography.

"I have been doing a bit. Mostly in black and white - I do abstract landscapes and still life pictures. You wouldn't know what they were if I showed them to you!"

But asked if he'd been cutting his own hair, he gave a resounding no. That will wait until after lockdown!
