The group made the donation despite Freemasonry in the United Kingdom being suspended due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

Midhurst lodge master, Martin Miles, gave authorisation for the payment to be made to support those in need in our community.

A spokesman for the group said: "We are especially pleased as this brings our total support to the Midhurst Foodbank in the last year to in excess of £2000.

"This is just a small part of our charitable donations in Midhurst and the surrounding areas including the Scouts and Guides, Stonepillow and many other worthy causes.

"Midhurst Freemasons are proud to support all these causes without any fund raising outside our own small group of members."

Midhurst Lodge was formed in 1922 and this month is the first time in 98 years that it has missed a scheduled meeting.

The spokesman added: "We are looking forward to the time we are able to meet again as well as to our 100th anniversary in 2022."
