Work begins this month to build a new £60,000 children’s playground in Brighton.

The playground, at Barn Rise, Westdene, will have a main park, toddler’s area and quiet corner, and include more than 20 play features including climbing frames, swings, slides, net and plank bridges, a fireman’s pole and a spinning wheel.

The park will also have improved access and play equipment for children with disabilities.

Construction work is due to begin on Monday 29 March and is expected to take around four weeks to complete.

The project has been part-funded by My First Friends Nursery, which is based in Barn Rise, which raised £9,000 with the support of local businesses and nearby residents, and the rest was paid for by Brighton and Hove City Council

Demita Harman, deputy manager at My First Friends Nursery, said: “The nursery has been fundraising for the last three years and has raised £9,000 to help towards the community side of the playground redevelopment.

“We would like to thank everyone who donated money and time, including local shops, local councillors, Sussex Police, local Westdene residents and of course the city council.

“Once completed, the playground will look amazing and it will finally be safe and inclusive for all ages.”
