The market will resume on Saturday, June 27, in a new temporary location at Pound Street Car Park.

This is a health and safety measure in order to reduce the number of people in the town centre at any one time, given that many of the town’s shops have reopened for business, the town council said.

Social distancing measures will be in place to ensure the safety of customers, stallholders and staff.

These will include:

– a one-way system

– cashless payment

– there will be no food tasters

– two metre social distancing will be in place at all of the stalls, with limited numbers allowed to queue.

Advice has been provided for stall holders, and there will be marshals on hand on the day to ensure that people adhere to the measures in place.

Liz Singleton, chairman of Petworth Town Council, said: “We are really pleased to see Petworth’s businesses back up and running and are delighted to be able to run the market again, supporting both our local stallholders and customers.

“The last few months have been a challenging time for our small producers and we are delighted that our colleagues at Chichester District Council have allowed us to hold this month’s event in the car park, making it safer for all members of the public.”

The market will take place on the last Saturday of every month, from 9am until 1pm.
