PICTURES: Bognor town centre comes to life as nonessential businesses reopen

Bognor town centre came roaring back to life today as nonessential businesses like pubs, cafes, high street shops and restaurants were allowed to open for the first time since Christmas. Read on for some of our best photos.

Social distancing measures were in place, hand sanitiser was ubiquitous and pubs could only serve customers in outdoor areas, but none of that was enough to stop residents from supporting local businesses in their bid to recover from a long and difficult year.

Despite the optimism, Arun District Council has urged members of the public to stay safe as they shop, urging customers to follow one way systems, observe social distancing guidelines and wear masks as they shop, even if they have received the first or both of their Covid-19 vaccines.

“I can’t stress enough how important it is that everyone continues to follow the safety guidelines in order to keep everyone safe. This is only step 2 in the 4-step government road map out of lockdown, so we can’t afford to let the good work slip now. We must all work together to ensure that we don’t see a spike in infection rates once again so that we continue to move steadily in the right direction.” Said Nigel Lynn, CEO at Arun District Council.
