The Brighton & Hove Community Lottery is initially supporting ten charities in the city, with applications for more organisations to sign up in spring and summer this year.

It’s just £1 to play, and at least 50p for every £1 entry goes directly to local Brighton and Hove charities and community groups. The rest goes towards running the lottery and the prize fund.

Adam Williamson of Brighton & Hove Community Lottery said: “The Brighton Community Lottery has been set up to support local charities during these uncertain and challenging times.

“If we can come together as a community, we can help plug the gap caused by the restriction on events like Pride and the Brighton Marathon. These longstanding and well supported events traditionally raised significant donations for a lot of charities.

“Although the government has provided emergency financial support to charities, lockdown and Covid restrictions have meant that in order to survive our local charities have had to adapt and reshape their services in order to continue. By joining the Brighton Community Lottery, together we can help ensure that the hard work of staff and volunteers can continue.”

The charities benefiting from the Brighton & Hove Community Lottery are:

Brighton Peace & Environment Centre, an education centre working with community groups, schools, local businesses and other organisations raising awareness and understanding of social justice, peace, sustainable development and environmental protection

- Audio Active, a music organisation which supports young people to progress into open access programmes and beyond

- Oasis Project, which helps women, children and families affected by drugs and alcohol

- Allsorts Youth Project, a charity which listens to, supports and connects children and young people under 26 who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or unsure (LGBTU) of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity

- Spiral Sussex, which provides specialist services for adults with learning disabilities offering a variety of recreational and social activities including supported holidays

- Refugee Radio, which supports refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants through community projects targeting mental health, isolation and social exclusion in Brighton and Hove

- Amaze, which provides information, advice and support to families of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities in Sussex

- Brighton Housing Trust, a housing association and a homeless charity providing essential services across Brighton and Hove

- Sussex Beacon, which specialises in care and support for people living with HIV in East and West Sussex, based in Brighton

- Speak Out, an independent advocacy service for adults with learning disabilities in Brighton and Hove

The lottery costs just £1 a week to play, with prizes for players who match three or more of their six numbers in sequence.

The Brighton & Hove Community Lottery is licenced by Brighton & Hove City Council and regulated by the Gambling Commission and the UK fundraising regulator.
