The new dementia services offer sensory areas and a variety of immersive activities to allow residents of all capabilities and mobilities to enjoy different experiences.

General manager Paul Middleton-Russell said: “The impact the sensory environments has had in a short space of time has been incredible.

Residents have shown absolute delight when using the areas. It has been a real joy to see the increased interaction from residents within our home with the resources and each other.”

The LED bubble tube offers a relaxing and calming motion with fish rising and falling in the water, the soothing motion of the bubbles and the rainbow colours grab attention.

An LED projector with a liquid wheel adds to the optical variegation as colours and shapes decorate the walls, ceilings and floors to create a distracting and calming effect.

Music is also used to match the interests and therapeutic needs of each individual – the sound system plays a range of tunes as well as life sounds such as musical instruments, water features and birdsong.
