People are being asked to help honour and celebrate those who serve and have served in the Armed Forces by marching 8,810 steps, equivalent to the journey up Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles, on Saturday.

Phoebe Tether, event organiser, said: “Obviously, due to the current circumstances, we cannot host our usual popular events, so we are in desperate need of support from our community.

“With many people still stuck at home, this virtual event is a great way for people to stay active, get exercising whilst also raising some money. Please know that your help will go a long way in ensuring that the veterans in our care continue to receive the support they need.”

Then, with the charity’s longest-standing event, the summer fayre, cancelled, people are asked to line the streets with stalls on Saturday, July 11, and sell items to raise funds for Care for Veterans.

The fayre has been held each year since the Second World War and has had to be cancelled only a handful of times.

Phoebe said: “The summer fayre usually provides us with a chance to invite the community in and show off Care for Veterans. This year, we have to rely upon our wonderful community to support our event virtually.

“This means that anyone from anywhere in the country can take part. Whether you’re a keen baker and would like to sell your baked goods, or if you have bric-a-brac you’ve been meaning to take to the charity shop for ages, why not hold a stall outside your property and raise some money for a good cause? Share your time and date on social media, tag us in and we can share it to help promote your sale.

“With all of our events postponed or cancelled this year, we have lost a major source of income. We are urgently appealing for people to support us, in any way they can. Without your support, the charity will not survive.”
