It is not being treated as suspicious, BTP said.

Lines were closed and there has been serious disruption on the rails this morning due to this.

Southern Rail said emergency services have completed their work following the tragic incident and some lines have since reopened.

However, disruption is expected until at least midday between Eastbourne and Ashford International.

The rail company said in a statement, “Please delay your journey this morning and only travel if you absolutely have to. If you are already on the train or must travel now, your journey will take a lot longer.”

Trains between Eastbourne, Hastings, and London Victoria are able to run but may not stop at all of their usual stations and could be cancelled before they reach the problem area.
