PetFringe organisers are '˜disappointed' by reaction

THE new PetFringe festival's organisers have expressed their dismay at the decision of the town council not to support their bid to close the square for a major music event at the start of PetFringe this summer.

Pete Drummond, speaking on behalf of his colleagues told the Observer: “

“PetFringe are very surprised and quite disappointed by the town council’s decision and yet hugely pleased for the unstinting support that they now offer. “We are unable to make a detailed comment on the meeting, as our knowledge is restricted to a short email we received from Chris Kemp, the council chairman, and the proceedings as relayed by the Observer.

“But I think it is worth explaining where PetFringe has got to.

“We recorded a minute that set out the objectives for PetFringe 2015. The first was to put on a ‘Fringe’ that was enjoyed by those who came, the second was to break even and thirdly, we wanted it to be received well enough that there was a popular will for it happen again.

“We achieved all three of these objectives.

“We have applied the extensive experience gained last year to create more ambitious, but similar, objectives for this year including more curating of talent, a major event and broadening appeal by inclusion of, for instance, a food festival.

“We are immensely grateful for the expressions of support we have received from both the Petworth Arts Festival and the town council towards creating Petworth’s first-ever two stage music event, albeit not using Market Square, and a fantastic British Food Festival in the square.

“We really look forward to working with the council from now on in to create events that Petworth people will really enjoy.”
