Despite paying Bunn’s optional £25 cancellation insurance fee beforehand, Jean Kinahan, 78, from Croydon, was not given her money back and was told ‘death doesn’t constitute a refund’ after the death of her partner James Burgess, who passed away aged 76 on July 27.

And now, David James, of Oak Close, Bognor Regis, has started a petition calling on Bunn to change its mind after reading the Observer’s article on Friday (July 31).

“I go along the south of England with my work, I’ve got a few customers that go down to Bunn Leisure at Selsey,” said the photographer.

“They’re absolutely horrified, I’m getting Facebook messages from them saying this is ridiculous.”

Her went on: “Epecially as the lady had put the cancellation insurance, I’m absolutely astounded.

“Bunn Leisure are not small, they could have done this without batting an eyelid. They could have given her the money back.

“But now somebody has been extremely short-sighted and decided that they’re not going to refund this woman.

“I think it’s rung a bell with people to be honest. It certainly rang a bell with me.”

He said he did not feel it was an ‘unreasonable thing’ for Mrs Kinahan to be asking for a refund, adding he was ‘shocked’ when he read the story and felt he had to take action.
