THE British Red Cross has thanked people in Petworth for digging deep into their pockets and raising £3,167.49, making them the biggest fundraisers in Sussex during Red Cross Week

Now the charity is looking for a volunteer to co-ordinate the Red Cross fundraising drive in the town next year.

Claire Umney, senior community fundraiser, said; “This is a fantastic amount of money raised by the residents of Petworth and the surrounding areas. I would also like to acknowledge the tremendous support of our volunteers for organising and managing the collections during Red Cross Week. Without them this kind of collection simply wouldn’t be possible.

“This brilliant total means that Petworth remains Sussex’s highest income generator during Red Cross Week, and we’d love to build on that next year.

“We’re looking for a volunteer Red Cross Week co-ordinator who can organise our team of dedicated volunteers, and inspire the community to dig even deeper.”

She said the role would suit somebody sociable and motivational with natural organisational skills, in the Petworth area. Volunteer bucket collectors and supportive organisations are also very much in demand.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering for the Red Cross should contact Claire on 01273 227815 / 07834 005761 or email for more information or to get involved with Red Cross Week.
