This year’s event, at Petworth Park, was extra special as it was held on Nicky’s 40th birthday.

Nicky’s brothers Johnny and Liam captained each team, and Johnny’s two goals helped his team to a close 6-4 win.

Also on the scoresheet for the winning team were Nathan Prepiorka, Jonathan Pafford, Dan Warren and 12-year-old Tyron Chambers.

Darren Hood and Natham Kemp swapped in goal.

Neil Farsthy bagged all four goals for Liam’s team, and Liam and Johnny’s half-brother, Scott Lillywhite, played in goal.

There was plenty of other entertainment taking place and Nicky’s mum Christine Hedger said: “It all went well despite the weather not being very good.

“We raised £1,157 for Motor Neurone Disease and Macmillan Cancer Support.”

Local hairdresser Salvatore organised the first event after Nicky’s death in 1996 and the family presented him with a silver plate.

They have also said a special thank you to Graham Stanton, Richard Goldsmith, Shaun Harding and Matthew Prepiorka for all their help.
