PETWORTH Primary School is celebrating the completion of a special project in the school grounds.

And parents, governors and people in the town were invited to join staff and pupils.

They gathered around the new reflective garden for a blessing by Petworth’s new priest Father Mark Gilbert and heard headteacher Gill Standing explain how it had evolved.

“The idea evolved from of our prayer space weeks,” she said, “where the children asked if they could have a permanent quiet space in the school to think, be quiet, think of others, say sorry and thank you to God.”

The garden project was the focus of the school’s Art Experience summer term topic when the children created their own garden designs which were incorporated into the overall design.

“All the staff worked extremely hard with the children creating their sculptures and mosaics,” said Gill.

She said the new garden had become a reality due to the generosity of donations and time from parents, governors, Staff, St Mary’s Church and the Martin Dallyn Fund.
