Pick a spot to cheer on Olympic Torch

THE Olympic Torch Relay will be in Rother soon and residents are being asked to line the streets in celebration.

Bexhill has been chosen as a Community On Route and will welcome torch bearers chosen for their community work.

The Torch is expected to arrive in Bexhill at just after 5pm on Tuesday, July 17, with the ‘activation convoy’ featuring sponsors activities and displays, arriving approximately 35 minutes before.

The Olympic Flame will begin the Bexhill leg of its journey just before Little Common roundabout and follow this route; Cooden Sea Road, Birk Dale, Collington Avenue, Westcourt Drive, Cooden Drive, Richmond Road, West Parade, Marina, Sea Road, Magdalen Road and Dorset Road, finishing at the junction with Links Drive.

The torch will then be transported to Hastings where it will continue on another leg of the relay before an overnight celebration takes place in the town.

There will be no permanent road closures in Bexhill, but temporary disruption will be caused through ‘rolling closures’ on the relay route. There will be some restricted parking in Birk Dale and on West Parade to ensure the convoy’s smooth progress.

Several community groups will be holding events in Bexhill to celebrate the arrival of the Torch:
