MEMBERS of Stedham Women’s Institute celebrated the centenary of the WI with an old fashioned village fete which attracted more than 300 visitors and raised around £3,000.
President of Stedham WI Vanessa Blaber said: “It went very well - we were very fortunate with the weather and lots of people came so we are hoping we will be able to give good support to village organisations.”
WI members decided to donate half their profits to village organisations including the village hall, Sports Association, church, Mudita Trust and the primary school.
The remaining funds will go to the WI
“We were really amazed to raise about £3,000 - we didn’t expect anything like that amount,” said Vanessa.
Chairman of the West Sussex Federation of WIs June Moran officially opened the fete and cut the centenary cake made by Penny Caulfeild with additional icing by fellow Stedham WI member Heather West.
