People slept out overnight on Saturday (October 10).

By this morning (October 12) Stonepillow had received £10,000 and sponsorship money is still arriving.

The event was sponsored by Henry Adams Estate Agent which means that every penny raised goes directly towards helping rough sleepers in West Sussex to get off the streets and re-integrate back into society by addressing the health, work and housing issues that they face.

This year the event took place on World Homelessness Day, which was themed ‘locals acting locally on a global day’. The emphasis is on giving hands-on aid that is sensitive to local needs, while being aware of the global problem of homelessness.

St John’ Church Youth Group from Southbourne won first prize in the shelter-building competition which took place during the day and was judged by Christopher Timothy, Henry Adams partner Martin Curry and Stonepillow’s chair of trustees Shelagh Legrave.

The prize was presented later at an Ecumenical Service in the cathedral.
