George Coe, 19, of Osborne Way, fears young enthusiasts may not have access to the opportunities he has had and wants to provide a central source of information and advice to help them.

“Any help, advice or support I offer is totally independent, based on my knowledge, qualifications and experience,” he points out.

“I am not a careers adviser or flying instructor but I aim to give honest, unofficial help in order to assist people’s progress within the aviation industry.”

Having been brought up in the area, George completed a lot of his training at Goodwood Aerodrome.

“I have been lucky enough to kick-start my flying career with the help of many people – through scholarships, experiences, opportunities and more,” he explained.

“With many young people living locally, I would hope that I can encourage and inspire more people by enlightening them to the local and national aviation information.

“Many people have asked me about my path so far and more specifically about scholarships, bursaries, sponsorships, practical flying and other aviation career aspects.

“I wouldn’t have been able to come this far without the help and support of others, and so I’ve decided to try to create a hub for information, help and support as well as a blog section about my aviation training journey.”

Recent news that 14 out of 26 volunteer gliding squadrons across the UK are to be disbanded by the MoD raised concerns that Air Cadets will find it more difficult to gain valuable flying experience.

Mr Coe said the announcement made him wary that some people may not have access to the opportunities he has had.

As a result, he wants to help and support budding aviation enthusiasts who may not be aware of the courses and scholarships on offer.

“This could range from educating them about what’s out there, or taking them up in an aircraft as part of a cost-shared flight,” he added.

“Hopefully, there will also be the chance to gain contacts which can help me and others progress forward with our aviation training. However I can help someone, I aim to do just that.

“The idea is fairly new and as far as I am aware, there isn’t one specific place which acts as a hub of information, help and support like this. The idea is hot off the press after a good few months of work.

“I am just a young man with a passion for aviation undergoing pilot training. I hope to help others, aiding them in getting to where I have and assist with practical flying to help gain more experience.”
