Plans for £50,000 playground in Midhurst to be unveiled

Ambitious plans to provide a £50,000 playground for over-five-year-olds in Midhurst's Carron Lane are to be outlined to town councillors.

The proposal has come from Friends of Play, a sub-group of the Midhurst Community Partnership which has told town councillors: “We have identified that the existing equipment in Carron Lane play park is aimed primarily at under-five-year-olds and has become itself rather dated.”

The group wants to apply to the Big Lottery Changing Spaces Fund for between £50,000 and £60,000 to make some ‘creative additions’ to the play space.

“In addition we would like to develop an adjacent play space into a haven for imaginative non prescriptive play incorporating the play equipment into a natural social area for over-five-year- olds that will inspire a sense of challenge, excitement and fun.”

Midhurst town clerk Joan Hursthouse said: “This is a very imaginitive project. But if it goes ahead the town council has to undertake to maintain and insure the equipment and so we have several questions we would like to ask the group and councillors have invited them to attend the council meeting on December 20.”
