Housing association Saxon Weald is hoping to gain permission from Horsham District Council to demolish the existing properties in Winterton Court off New Street, and build 65 flats and 4 new houses.

The authority’s Development Control North Committee will decide whether or not to approve the application for the affordable properties at Park North in North Street from 5.30pm tonight.

The scheme has attracted opposition from residents of the New Street area. They believe proposals represent overdevelopment of the site, and would exacerbate existing parking and road safety problems in the area.

While not against affordable homes on the site, they feel a number of five-storey and three-storey blocks would destroy the character of the area.
