Police have released an E-fit of a man they want to speak to after a reported distraction burglary in Petworth.
The victim told police officers a man called at her home near Station Road last Wednesday, November 9, at around 5.45pm claiming to work for the council.
A police spokesman said: “He said he needed to check her water because there was a pipe leak nearby. When asked if he was checking neighbouring properties, he said he’d already done so.
“The victim called her neighbours after the man left, none of whom had been visited. She then noticed that nearly £1,100 cash had been stolen from her bedroom.”
The suspect has been described as white, aged between 35-40, around 6 feet tall and of a large, strong build with medium length dark hair. He was wearing a blue jumper with the sleeves over his hand and blue trousers.
Det Con Emma Fields said: “The man who came to the victim’s house lied about the water leak and was not employed by any local council.
“I would ask anyone who was in the area that evening and who saw anything suspicious to get in touch.”
Witnesses can report online quoting serial 1023 of 09/11.
