The 20 year old from Petworth was airlifted to St George’s Hospital in London by the Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance, where his condition remains serious.

Midhurst firefighters were alerted at 6.30am on Sunday after reports that a silver Nissan Cabster truck had left the road and collided with a tree in North Street leaving the driver trapped.

Petersfield Fire Station’s rescue pump and Chichester’s heavy rescue tender were also called in to help recover the injured man. Hydraulic rescue equipment was used to cut him from his vehicle.

It is believed the injured man may have been trapped in his vehicle for as long as two hours before being discovered and before the emergency services were called.

Anyone who saw what happened is asked to email [email protected] or phone 101, quoting Operation Claremont.
