POLICE closed the A286 outside Midhurst for an hour last night (Tuesday, May 12) after another crash on the notorious stretch of road.

It was closed shortly after 7.30pm between Southdowns Close and the Royal Oak pub when a car leaving the pub and another heading south on the A286 towards Chichester were in collision.

Landlord of the Royal Oak Julian Swan told the Observer: “The customer from the pub was taken to hospital by ambulance, but was not seriously injured.”

Residents in the area have made persistent calls for safety measures along the stretch of road after a series of accidents.

These were renewed in February when a 60 year old man was killed after being struck by a car.

The man had been walking his two dogs when the accident happened.
