Police officer injured in Bognor Regis car crash

A 37-year-old police officer has been taken to hospital after a collision in Bognor Regis between a police car and a wall.

The female response officer suffered a broken arm and a dislocated shoulder in the accident about 9pm on Wednesday, July 11.

It occurred in Nyewood Lane, close to its junction with Stocker Road.

The marked police car in which the injured officer was a passenger was responding to an emergency call in Nyetimber Lane and had its blue lights and sirens on.

It was in collision with a black VW Golf before it smashed into the wall.

Sergeant Stewart Goodwin, from West Sussex Roads Policing Unit, said: “We are appealing for witnesses to come forward who saw the collision or either of the cars before the incident to please call 101 quoting serial 1779 of 11/7.

“I’d like to thank drivers for their patience as the road was closed for around two hours while the casualties were attended to and the road made safe.”

The VW Golf was being driven by a woman, aged 53, from Bognor. She was treated at the scene for shock.

Her passengers, a 25-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, were injured. They are also from Bognor.

The 24-year-old police officer who was driving the police car was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
