The county council’s libraries offer a 24-hour virtual service, with access to 3,600 ebooks and 1,300 audio titles.

Users can borrow seven ebook titles and ten audio titles for up to three weeks at a time.

There are no loan charges as loans automatically expire at the end of the lending period so there are no late fees.

David Barling (Con, Bramber Castle), West Sussex County Council’s cabinet member for residents’ services, said: “Ever since we launched our e-lending service last September it’s gone from strength to strength.

“Ebooks are increasingly popular and for many they are the preferred way to enjoy reading.

“We add to our titles all the time and the feedback we have had from customers is very positive.

“We know that people can’t always make it to a library within the specified opening hours but that shouldn’t stop the enjoyment of reading. Our ebook service is there for our customers 24/7.”

As well as ebooks and audio titles there are also 100 e-magazines to download, covering topics such as gardening, cookery, cars, and computing.

To borrow an ebook all you need is your library card number and PIN. If you do not know your PIN you can ask at your local library or it can be requested online via the WSCC website.
