Linchmere cottage destroyed in fire could be rebuilt

A cottage which was destroyed in a fire 12 years ago could be rebuilt if plans are successful (SDNP/20/00213/FUL).

The cottage, in Danley Lane, Linchmere, was reduced to ashes in 2008 but the latest plans for the site hope to see it returned to its former state.

Plans were made for the two-bedroom cottage back in 2016 but after three years passed since its approval, the application lapsed. This latest application is a resubmission of the previous plan (SDNP/15/03433/FUL).

"There is no consistent character within the local area, with a range of materials including render, tile hanging and stone. The design of the proposed cottage matches that of the original building, prior to fire damage, and as such, it is considered that there will be minimal change and no adverse impacts on the character of the conservation area."

It was received by South Downs National Park planning authority on January 17 and a decision is expected before April 22.
