Site next to the Novium sold by Chichester District Council

THE site next to The Novium museum Chichester has been sold to McCarthy and Stone by Chichester District Council.

It was earmarked for redevelopment at the start of the museum project, with the funds raised going towards the cost of building The Novium museum.

The site in Tower Street has planning permission for the construction of 26 apartments.

However, McCarthy and Stone has submitted its own planning application to develop the site with 16 two-bedroom bespoke apartments.

Josef Ransley, member for corporate services and communications at Chichester District Council, said: “Before we began The Novium project, we identified the proceeds from the sale of this piece of land would go towards the cost of building the museum.

“The council decided to complete the construction of The Novium building before selling the land and so we are pleased that the land has now been sold.”

A spokesman for McCarthy & Stone said: “The redevelopment of this site with high-quality accommodation will provide the opportunity to significantly enhance the immediate area, as well as providing an exciting opportunity to introduce high-quality architecture to this prominent location.

“We are committed to involving the local community at every stage of the development and would like to thank those who took the time to provide the project team with their feedback on the proposals.
