Poor Victorians spark charity donation

LEARNING about poverty stricken children in the Victorian era prompted pupils to donate money to the charity Barnardos.

Year two pupils at Willows First School in Lancing have been studying the Victorian period and came to school for a day dressed as poor children from the era.

They also learnt about Dr Thomas Barnardo who set up schools and home for destitute children in 1867 which eventually became the children's charity Barnardos.

The children decided to donate some of the collection from their harvest assembly and give it to Barnardos. They raised 100.
