Plans to move Midhurst Post Office from its present home in The Tuck Shop in North Street have been unveiled.
It is proposed to move the service to Midhurst Service Station in Bepton Road where Post Office officials say it will be open seven days a week and a total of 65 hours longer every week.
They say a wide range of Post Office services will be available in a modern open plan retail setting.
Now the Post Office is holding a six week public consultation into their proposals.
Will Russell, regional network manager, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.
“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. “This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.”
The services would be delivered from three modern serving positions in the convenience store. These will be a mixture of one full-screened counter and one open-plan, which would be open Monday to Saturday from 9am-5.30pm.
There would also be a Post Office serving point at the retail counter, offering selected services, from 6am–10pm.
This would, said Mr Russell, be an extra 65 hours a week of Post Office service including all day Sunday and Saturday afternoon.
“The branch would open significantly earlier and close much later every day. These changes would make it more convenient for customers to visit.”
The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move.
The consultation will close on October 6.
