West Sussex County Council is extending an existing footway, and installing a crossing point, on the B2145 Chichester Road.

The work will take place between the Pink Cottage Day Nursery entrance and Robinson Close twitten, near the Chichester Road bus stop.

A dropped kerb with tactile paving is being installed on both sides of the road, and three metres of overgrown verges will be cleared.

Once finished, pedestrians will be able to reach the bus stop and nursery without having to walk on the road or the grass.

County council cabinet member for highways and transport, John O’Brien, said: “These improvements will make life easier and safer for pedestrians who use the bus stop and the nursery nearby.

“We apologise for any disruption this may cause and advise motorists using this route to give themselves extra time before making their journey.

“We intend to have this finished in time before the upcoming Bank Holiday Weekend.”

Work starts on Monday, May 16 and will last for up to two weeks.

It will be done between 7am and 5pm on weekdays.

Three way traffic signals will be in operation during the works and disruption to motorists is expected.

Traffic signals will be manually controlled during peak hours to ease the flow of traffic.

No signals will operate over the weekend.
