St Mary’s Salehurst: will be starting Sunday 5th March, which is the 1st Sunday in Lent, with Holy Communion at 9am in Holy Trinity in Hurst Green and with Family Communion at 11am at Salehurst.

Spring Clean: our village is on Sunday 5th March between 2pm – 4pm. This is a nationwide event where volunteers help clean up the community they live in. If you would like to help in our village please head towards the recreation ground for 2pm and you will be provided with gloves and litter pickers if you don’t have any and of course the bags to fill. Robertsbridge Jazz Club: is holding its monthly evening on Thursday 9th March at Robertsbridge Hall between 8pm – 10.30pm. Tickets are available from Judges at £8 or on the door at £10.

This month they present the terrific jazz trumpeter Paul Higgs with a tribute to Miles Davis. The Paul Higgs Quartet features Paul Higgs on the trumpet, Mike Hext on the trombone, Ted Beament on piano, Val Mannix on bass and Pete Beament on the drums. FOOTBALL: With 6 regular 1st team players not available it was going to be a difficult away match against Sedlescombe Rangers in the 2nd Round of the Paul Mitchell Plastering Contractors Robertsbridge Charity Intermediate Cup. The Bridge had the more chances in the opening half but lack of shots on target would eventually cost them the game while Rangers had a goal bound shot well saved by Bridge keeper Grant Lewis five minutes before the break. The second period saw Rangers take the lead on 50 minutes when failure to defend the far post allowed them the opener and then Michael Stone gave away a penalty after 65 minutes and the visitors progressed into the semi-final with another goal after 75 minutes. The 2nd team hosted local rivals Battle Baptists III in Division 5 of the Macron East Sussex Football League and normally this fixture produces loads of goals and again the fixture lived upto its billing with seven goals with Jason Marsh hitting a hat-trick. Marsh opened the scoring after 20 minutes from 5 yards after a goalmouth scramble and 10 minutes later Justin Hardy netted from 18 yards with a neat shot but from the re-start the Baptists pulled a goal back and bad defending allowed them to equalize two minutes before the break. The Bridge’ lack of concentration gave the Baptists a goal 3 minutes into the second period and this inspired the Bridge to push forward and the reward came after 55 minutes when Marsh scored his second and just 5 minutes later he completed his hat-trick. The last half hour was frantic at both ends with both teams pushing for more goals but The Bridge defence stood firm to take all three points. Tomorrow the 1st team are at Sedlescombe Rangers in the Macron East Sussex Football League Premier Division K.O. 3p.m while the 2nd team host Division 5 leaders Wittersham II in the 3rd Round the Robertsbridge Charity Junior Cup K.O. 2.30p.m. Tonight we are holding a fund-raising ‘Games Night’ at Robertsbridge Club from 7.30p.m.

FRIDAY DARTS: We played our final league match last week at home to The Millers Arms and lost the single darts 5-2 with victories for Pete Giles and Guy Ballard but lost all the doubles matches. There were 100+ scores for Dave Goodsell[140], Michael Stone[133,122], Guy[120 checkout], Gary Honeysett[2 x 100] and Pete[100]. We won pushpenny 4-1 with wins for Michael Stone, Ted Goldfinch, Dave Fortsch and Alan Apps while Dave scored a ‘goldwatch’. The result meant that we won the league. Tonight we are at The Millers Arms against Mountfield Club ‘B’ in the final knockout match of the season at 8p.m.

STOOLBALL: We are holding a fund-raising ‘Quiz Night’ on Saturday 18th March 2017 at Robertsbridge Club @ 7.30p.m. Entrance is £2 per player for teams of upto six players per team. If you have more than six don’t worry we can make up more teams from the spare players we have so come along and have some fun before the season begins in May.
