Rowing and waxing in Littlehmpton supports young cancer patients

Charitable spirit has been driving college students in Littlehampton to do their bit to support children with cancer.

Young people at The Littlehampton Academy, in Fitzalan Road, have been taking part in a number of fund-raisers this month to support the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust.

The band of caring teens held a series of events to coincide with the charity’s Youth Against Cancer Week.

Sixth Form students did everything they could to drum up cash for the organisation, from dressing up in wacky outfits, to a leg wax by some of the boys and even a sponsored indoor row, covering the distance from Littlehampton to the Isle of Wight.

Other events included a five-a-side football tournament, quiz night and Zumba evening.

To date the school has raised more than £600 for the trust.

However, this is expected to rise, once all the money is totalled.

A spokeswoman for the academy said the students had a “brilliant time” and that the charity was a “well-deserving good cause”.

A representative of the trust said all the money raised during the campaign will be invested in to research, support projects and future awareness campaigns of cancer in young people.

“Every day six young people are told they have cancer. Due to lack of funding, research into the biggest non-accidental killer of young people is low but the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust are hoping to change this with their on-going fund-raising,” she said.
