Rubbish start for wheelie bins in Goring

THE new wheelie bin scheme got off to a rubbish start for some Goring residents.

People in Limbrick Lane were unable to wheel their rubbish out last week and instead left their full bin bags on the pavement.

But as well as the failure of their new council wheelie bins to arrive, the refuse collectors did not show up when they were expected, last Wednesday, September 19, either.

Resident Matt Mitchell, 40, said: "I was phoning the council all week. We were supposed to have the new bins the previous week '“ it's not rocket science.

"Some people had put out two weeks' worth of rubbish and I'm surprised they were not kicked down the street and set alight to."The residents' new wheelie bins eventually arrived on Thursday and the rubbish was collected on Friday, September 21. However, expecting the collection to be at around 10am as it was previously, many people had not put their bins out before the refuse collectors arrived at 6.30am.

*Meanwhile, Worthing householders who do have their wheelie bins are playing a rubbish numbers game.

Residents are being asked to make sure the bins (at least two per home) bear their house number, and local hardware shops have had a rush of customers requesting stick-on digits.

Bunce's, in Chapel Road, ran out of number ones a few days ago, and the store had to order a prompt re-stock.

And with the adhesive numerals having to be bought individually, it doesn't pay to live too far along a lengthy road.
