Oliver said: “My 12-year-old brother goes to Rye Sea Cadets and I thought this drawing would be perfect to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.”

Oliver gained a degree in illustration in 2014 from the University of Brighton, studying at the Hastings campus.

He is currently working part-time at Craft Magic in Rye, while he works on his first graphic novel.

“When I work on a drawing, I first ink it up before colouring it in using Photoshop.

“It took two days to complete the piece I’ve done to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

“It’s now on display at the Rye Sea Cadets’ unit in Rock Channel.”

The Sea Cadet Corps’ history dates back to the Crimean War in the 1850s when sailors returning home from the campaign formed Naval Lads’ Brigades to help those orphans created by the conflict, who ended up on the back streets of sea ports.

The first brigade was established at Whitstable, Kent in 1854.
