Sammy makes Carnival history

ONE OF the youngest participants in Old Town Carnival history is planning on adding a little magic to the procession this year.

Toddler Sammy Kelly (left) is setting the standard for young and old to get involved in festivities. The two-year-old fairy-garbed Ore resident is set to be amongst front-runners in the procession, continuing a family tradition of getting stuck in to the carnival spirit.

Sammy is the grand-niece of carnival life president Babs Muggridge - a name synonymous with the Old Town Carnival - and her mother hopes the tiny tot will have carnival crowds beaming.

Mother Clare Kelly, of Sarle Close, said: "I thought it would be good fun for her. I used to be in the procession with my mum and sister when I was little. All my family have been in it. It's almost a tradition.

"She loves the carnival. She's saw it last year, but she hasn't been in it before. My sister's involved with the fire brigade so we hope she'll be going around in the fire engine at the front of the procession.

"She's a little character, there's no doubt about it. She looks very pretty in her costume, and she's getting very excited about taking part. We are hoping to do it as a group next year."
