Second Funtington crash passenger in hospital with ‘critical’ injuries

POLICE have released further details after a 22-year-old local woman lost her life on the B2146 near Funtington on Friday afternoon (August 14).

At 2.30pm, the silver VW Polo saloon she was driving collided with a parked DAF heavy goods vehicle on the stretch of road between Funtington and East Ashling.

“Tragically, the car driver died at the scene,” said a police spokesman.

“The rear-seat passenger, a 20-year-old man from Emsworth, received critical back and leg injuries and is currently at Southampton General Hospital.

“The front-seat passenger, a 34-year old Gosport man, was treated for cuts at St Richard’s Hospital, in Chichester.”

The road was closed for more than four hours while emergency services attended the scene.

Anyone who saw what happened was asked to contact Sussex Police via [email protected] or call 101 quoting Operation Sundridge.

(Note: on Friday police said the deceased driver was a 21-year-old woman. Today, the force confirmed she was in fact 22.)
